A new policy came to play
the Principal says “we’re taking the phones away.”
No phone on campus
no matter the time of day

It’s lunch, it’s my off. Nope.
Kelly the security says “ it’s not okay.”                                                                    cause if I pull out my device at anytime
my ass is going to reflection time

and might I mention it needs to be in a pouch.                                                      They call it “A Yondr.”
which makes me wonder
what the hell is the use of this?

My mom pay fees, my mom pays taxes
then the school says “Let’s buy some dumbass magnets”
and still charges 25 dollars
for the Yondr which I’m not using any longer.

Alright I get it keep the phones out of your classes
but I beg the school board to put on some glasses
as some teachers say “back in my day…”
well in this case back in the day has no relevance
today.

If a caveman said “back in the day I had no electricity,”
would you get rid of that necessity then sit down nicely
and agree?
See the thing is it’s a new generation
and we were simply brought up differently

And make no mistake.
No one says “I wanna grow up and be on my phone all
day.”
Spend it tippity tapping their life away.
No is taking that type of action.

Even then teachers say “phones limit social interac-                                            tion”
when in reality they only boost my social traction                                                they want us to sit down and play Jenga and Monopoly                                      when I just want to send my friend a funny cat
meme
that’s how we bond in this day and age.

Funny thing is school also say “teachers have to
follow suit”
but it seems with this policy not even teachers can
compute
In class I turn my eyes and there I see
Mr Ms. or Mrs’ on their mini property.

See parents worry, and now schools treat phones as
threats to society
when our country is basically run by some Nazis.                                                Students are out here under age drinking
vaping, drugs aren’t these the real enemies?

And yet they still ask “what about cyber bullying?                                                It is an issue I agree but that’s no reason to lock my
phone out of reach.
How about let someone teach
the right way socially to use the online space. the way
so that it can be safe.

Let me say what phones really are:
they are a form of communication
they are and can even be good for education
they are ultimately a technological advancement for
human evolution.

A fi nal message I have this to say:
Have some trust in us.
if I have to keep my phone locked in a pouch
just because I can’t keep it away for even one minute                                          then when I’m grown up.
I’m fucked.
